The Thunderbird was Ford’s answer to the Corvette. But not competing head-to-head might have been Fords smartest decision.

The 1957 model featured a reshaped front bumper, a larger grille and tail fins, and larger tail lamps. The instrument panel was also redesigned, and the rear of the car was lengthened, allowing the spare tire to be placed back in the trunk. With additional engine options that could deliver up to 300 horsepower, sales rose to a record-breaking 21,380 units for 1957.

The ’57 model was also the last 2-seater built until the 2002 Thunderbird came to market in the summer of 2001.
