Classic Cars of the “Fat Body” Forties

From convertibles to Woodies, the 1940’s produced some highly prized vehicles. Here are a few cars of the “Fat Body” ’40s we really like.

1941 Cadillac Series 62 Four Door Convertible

This 1941 Cadillac is a beautiful example of the pre-war convertibles that were very popular with new car buyers back then, as well as collectors today.

The powertrain consisted of a 346 ci (5.7 L) 135 hp Monobloc V8 and a choice of either a 3-speed selective synchromesh manual transmission or a 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission.

The 1941 Series 62, like the one featured here, offered the only 4-door convertible built by Cadillac. It was the last time this body style was ever made by Cadillac.

1947 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible

The 1947 Cadillac Series 62 offered the only convertible by Cadillac in 1947. As you can see, it is a stunning example of post-war automobile craftsmanship.

Although little-changed from the ’46 model, the Series 62 was still Cadillac’s bellwether car, accounting for nearly 84% of total production in 1947.
